India on 5th June banned 59 Chinese apps which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state, and public order.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology imposed the ban under Section 69A, which precisely states that;
Where the Central Government or any of its officer specially authorised by it in this behalf is satisfied that it is necessary or expedient so to do, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence relating to above, it may subject to the provisions of sub-section (2) for reasons to be recorded in writing, by order, direct any agency of the Government or intermediary to block for access by the public or cause to be blocked for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource.
The Government further disclosed that they have received several complaints from the public about access to their private information, through these malicious apps.
The Government of India has taken this radical step concerning the privacy of the public.
Here’s the list of apps India banned, including TikTok
How are these apps a threat?
One of the most famous app TikTok owned by Chinese Company, that possessed billions of users from India, was accused of being highly dangerous and unsafe to use.
TikTok uses unencrypted HTTP that puts user’s privacy at risk, exploiting the security leading to a strong possibility of hacking.
This move safeguards the security of Indians, ensuring the safety and sovereignty of India.
There are a plethora of people addicted to these apps, who now can avail the various alternatives that are secure to access.
As protecting the country is the Government’s topmost priority.
So, make a wise decision!
